Donut Hole Wednesday

OK. Have you ever tried to put a donut hole BACK into a donut? I bought a box of donut holes for the guys at my family's auto mechanic shop today. (The most honest mechanic shop you'll ever go to!) Anyway, my sister arrives to work &, watching us all eat donut holes, she proceeds to talk about how, when she was younger, she tried to put donut holes back INTO the donut...& how every time she tried, it never worked! (Then my brother, one of the mechanics, started talking about how wierd it is that there is braille at the drive-thru ATM machines. We are totally going to do a hidden video camera stunt where he plays "the blind guy" at the ATM! But, that's a different topic...) My sister was talking about this as if everyone else has done it, like a "no-biggie" sort of thought. Well, it WAS a "biggie" sort of thought! I have NEVER tried to put a donut hole back into a donut & I can't even believe that the thought has never crossed my mind! I'm sorta disappointed to think that all these 31 years of my life, I have never taken a moment to try & put a donut hole back into a donut....until now. And you know what? It doesn't fit.
For other info on donut holes, including the history of them, and their very close brother, the "doughnut", click here.
And just how do you make donut holes? Here's a simple recipe I have yet to try, but it looked fun just the same!

Miniature Cereal Box Craft

mini cereal boxes
Why wasn't I allowed to eat sweet, sugary cereal very often as a kid? I don't know, but I'm still bitter about it. I don't let my girls eat it very often either. Why? "Because MY mom wouldn't let ME, so now YOU will have to suffer as well!" Not really. The stuff is quite delicious. My favorite is Lucky Charms. I save all the marshmallows until the very final bites. On one recent occasion I splurged & bought a pack of those 8 mini boxes. My girls had never had Froot Loops, so I thought we'd sample. I do not consider myself a pack-rat. Or a hoarder. But rather, a keeper of the unusual. So, after we consumed the cereal, I kept the boxes, thinking, "These are really quite colorful & fun to look at! I MUST come up with some crafty way to use them." And so I have. It's a catch-all, or a mini organizer...haven't quite come up with a name yet. But they are cute & functional & those are my 2 favorite things! Please feel free to add your own ideas as well. Here are the steps...

Supplies needed...
Supplies Needed:
miniature cereal boxes
small scissors
super glue
magnets

Step 1
STEP 1
Cut off box top.

Step 2
STEP 2
Cut out "notched" section that is located on front & both sides of box. (At least the Kellogg brand cereals have this notch. I'm not sure of other brands.) The "notches" are just so you can get items in & out of your boxes more easily. You can also make the "notches" bigger if you want.

Step 3
STEP 3
Apply superglue to the back of magnet. E6000 would work well too. I tried a hot glue gun, & it didn't stick as flat to the box. One secret about magnets: Use the ones from businesses/restaurants that clutter your fridge! I used these "flat" style of magnets, because they cover a large amount of the box & ensure a strong magnetized grip. You could also use "button" magnets-I'd glue on 2 or 3 of those. Just make sure that whatever magnets you use are strong, because I have found some brands just sliiiiiide right down the fridge & don't serve a purpose except to annoy me!

Ta-da!TA-DA!
Stick 'em to the fridge & fill them with notepads & pens/pencils, coupons, memos, to-do lists, phone numbers, important info, recipes, reminders, phone lists....anything! You can also decorate them with fun papers & embellish with buttons, glitter, sequins, stickers, etc. It's a fun fridge organizer!

Grandmother's Birthday...

Today my grandmother is 85! And she is still one foxy lady! As a present, I'm going to take her to the mall & go to a photo booth. It's a colored one, I miss the black-n-white one, but it'll do! It's one of my most absolute favorite things to do. She's a spunky one, & I'm sure she's up for this birthday adventure. I'll post pictures when the deed is done...Tonight it's party time though! Dinner at mom's with grandmother's favorite: spaghetti. I wonder if grandmother will bake one of her yummylicious pies for dessert? Of course I'm kidding.....sorta.

Daydreaming...

Someday I'll have my dream art studio. What is my dream studio? I'm still flipping through mags & folding corners. For now, it's piles of stuff, in a tiny room. And it's not all my stuff. It's the so-called "office/art studio/my closet/sewing room/the "no no" room for my girls. I do find the occasional Strawberry Shortcake figurine poking from underneath a pile of fabric as proof that my girls have been here (probably building a fort in the closet or having a puppet theatre under my table). My poor hubby is squished in the corner with his large books with big words, a narrow table (housing the laptop I now use), a short chair (my arms can barely reach the keyboard), & no proper desk to sprawl out & study. I am slowly overtaking this space. Inch by inch...Very quietly...This is a super secret spy operation that has been almost 8 years in the making...Will he notice?..Too late. He noticed a long time ago. And yet he accepts it, with a few mumbles & grumbles along the way. But someday, when WhiMSy love is off & running & my creative hands have finally accomplished the mission I have set forth, I hope to see a silly, sly smirk on that scruffy face of his! That'll be a definite day to celebrate! Sparkling pear cider & peanut butter cups for everyone!
