I christened the garage sale season this year on my birthday road trip with my ma in April. But we haven't had a chance until now to go locally. It's an anticipated Saturday morning event in the warm weather months! I'll wake up early, put on my "garage sale" clothes, & wait for my chariot to arrive. (That would be mom in her big red vehicle.)
This time around will be a bit different though. Since my little booth in the antique mall is closing, I won't be looking for the same sorts of things at garage sales. I'm more "crafty" minded now. I'm thinking supplies & upcycling, & re-purposing. I can't wait! I'll be sure to post a picture of my delicious bargains!
Now, what are my "garage sale" clothes? Well, 2 years ago I went to garage sales with my then 3 year old & 11 month old daughters. I had a baggy shirt on. It was not a maternity shirt, but it had an "empire" waist with a flowing mid-section. I was at one particular sale & had rummaged through a GIANT stack of beautiful linens & doilies & vintage fabric pieces. None of them were priced. So, I grabbed a big pile in my hand hoping for a decent discount. As I was standing in line to pay, the lady working the garage sale asked me, "When are you having your baby?" I thought she was asking how old my youngest was, (I guess I automatically bypassed her assumption that I was fat & ready to give birth?) & then I realized what she was asking. I instantly said, "I'm not pregnant." Then I thought, "Oh yeah.....I'm totally getting an awesome deal on these vintage goodies!" There was a severly awkward momeny following our brief dialogue. And, I only paid 2 dollars!
I really did have a love/hate relationship with the shirt after that, but it is was once part of my "garage sale" wardrobe. And it is now a part of my "garage sale" history...
I'm hoping after the morning of bargains to make a quick trip to the river for a bit of relaxing & craftiness...
Here's to your 'morrow & a beautiful morning of doing things you love....
