Everybody around here cooks & bakes--- from scratch. Like, REAL scratch. As in..
Q: What's for dinner?
A: I got a buffalo out back.

I'm a little intimidated but a lot motivated to be a real home-cookin' kind of gal. In fact, last night someone gave me a couple gallons of beans, which are in my freezer-- ready to be heated up & smashed & turned into homemade refried beans. I've never made 'em before. But how simply lovely that someone gifted me with beans!!

Tonight I'm going out on the town. Well, I'm tagging along with some ladies from my church to go to dinner & comedy with ladies from another nearby church. It's very weird being a pastor's wife for the first time. I felt very comfortable in my skin 2 months ago, but now that there are more eyes on me, & I can't help but wonder if some people are being more chummy & wanting to hang out JUST because I'm the pastor's wife, well, that feels all strange-like. I find it perplexing. I want to be popular because I'm awesome, not because of who I'm married to. Haha!

♥ Nikki

P.S. I can't stand it anymore. A crafty post MUST happen tomorrow. I have no idea what it'll be, but it's gonna happen!

  2. Even if it starts that way- they will know soon enough how fabulous you are. :) Do you give out your blog address? Just wondering. I would feel pressure to be a good example- whatever that might consist of! Although, I'm pretty sure it doesn't include the po-po. ;) Your posts are starting to remind me a little of Footloose. Now I want to rent it...

  5. Nikki--don't fret over the extra attention you might be getting right now. It won't be long until they'll be saying, "oh, him--he's Mrs. Whimsy Love's hubby". You'll stand on your on virtues before long. I'm ready for a crafty post, too.
I have enjoyed "hearing" about the move, and settling in! I really admire you and the way you have handled such a gigantic change--it couldn't have been easy.
Maybe ya'll can move to Texas next!

  7. It would be strange. I always wonder why people are like that. Maybe you could do a little field study! :)

  8. The braids are a very cute look for you! Miss M is excited b/c her hair is long enough for double braids that don't stick out anymore!

  11. I'm a pastor's wife too and can sympathize. Hope you have lots of fun tonight and make some great new friends. Good luck in your homemade from scratch meals. What a fun adventure. Can't wait to hear all about it.

  12. ha ha ha ha ha! i don't know why this post resonates with me so. but it just does! my friend cherie turned me on to this other website that, considering where you live & the baking/cooking phenoms you're up against, you just might like. it's thepioneerwoman.com
she's a jill of all trades like you, so i figure there's gotta be stuff you can relate to there.

as for the friends because you're awesome thing? that's why i still hang around here. =)

  13. Yeah. I have always secretly feared that my husband would feel impressed to become a pastor. I think I'd be a horribly neurotic pastor's wife. Too much attention for me, thanks.

You're awesome, though, so even if they're being chummy for some other reason, it'll eventually be because they actually got to know you.

  15. ONE of my TRULY BESTEST friends in the world is a pastor's wife. In the beginning I was worried I WOULD MAKE A BAD impression. We met at MOPS:) When I realized she is as REAL as they come I can just let my hair down around her and even though we dont go to the same church I LOVE that I have someone praying for me and someone that will give me faithful advice BUT I LOVE that I have someone who takes me LIKE I am:)

CRAFTY PASTOR's WIVES rock and dont let any uptighties make you worry!

  16. Interestingly enough, I loved you for your awesomeness and was quite shocked to find out you were a Pastor's wife. I don't really know why that is, just that it's the truth. So, me thinks they will love you once they know you and that will be that. The pastor's wife thing is just an introduction...

    And I don't even know you :-)

  17. Perhaps some people think you've got a batman red phone line to God or something? :) I have always wondered...

To me, having people come to me would be great because I am terrified to introduce myself to new people.

People will soon figure out that you are awesome. And people who get that you are awesome can only be full of awesomeness too - don't you think? Bring on the kindred spirits!

  18. Yes, people will want to be with you because of the one you are married to. BUT just *BE YOURSELF* It doesn't change who you have to be, it's just a way for even more people to love you for who you are, and who God created you to be!!!!
