Today, while out & about in Lincoln, we stopped by the National Roller Skating Museum.
The museum contains the largest collection of historical roller skates, dating to 1819, in the world. It's a very small place, but packed full of lots of history & interesting memorabilia.
The girls spun the heck out of this wall of wheels. "The Evolution of Wheels 1860-1998".
These skates were used in vaudeville performances. (Vaudeville was a theatrical genre of variety entertainment in the U.S. & Canada from the early 1880's until the early 1930's.)
These pair of Boxer skates were autographed by Drew Barrymore, from the 2009 movie "Whip It".
We saw all sorts of skates: motorized skates, skates on stilts, skates grandma might have worn, etc.
There was even a tablet where you could answer this question: "What would your derby name be?"
ZOEY: Champion
ME: Tough Creampuff
PAZELY: Mighty Midget
When we returned to the car, Zoey pulled out a notebook & sketched the picture above.
(Love.)
So, find a museum in your town—& visit!!
