Summer Diary: Day 43: Bake a Cake

After dinner tonight, I decided it would be fun to bake a cake. I'm a boxed cake mix girl. I'm ashamed to say. I thought it would be fun to overcome my fears & bake a cake with the girls.
From scratch!!
I found an easy one-layer chocolate cake recipe in a cookbook of mine. The cookbook is falling apart. (I make a lot of pancakes & waffles. I've opened it so many times the seam has ripped in that section.)

Pazely was my little kitchen helper. I think Zoey was off playing some make-believe game where she was a detective. She used her magnifying glass to find things for Pazely, the Mr. & me.

Pazely, my chocolate lover, was DYING to taste the Hershey unsweetened cocoa powder. I warned her that it wasn't what she thought it was going to be. (Don't you remember tasting it as a kid & being disgusted & disappointed? haha!)

She needed two hands to mix for the four minutes required.

Of course big sister came around when it was time to lick the beaters.

When the cake came out of the oven, the middle was sunken in. And when I inverted it onto a plate, the bottom of the cake stuck to the bottom of the pan. (We didn't show you that part though.) The important part is that it tasted delicious. And we made a cake! From scratch!!!

  2. Yum! You know me, I always bake from scratch. I don't think it's any harder to make from scratch than use a box. Yay for you for trying!

  3. When I have the time, I like to make my own cake and brownie mixes. Then all my girls have to do is add the wet ingredients. (They love baking!) I like the texture of homemade cakes better, but the boxed mixes from the grocery store are SO easy to do. We even have a few cake mix extender recipes that make a box mix taste like a scratch cake! Google them, they're great. :-)

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment. Every time you do, I do a little happy dance. For reals.
