When I was a teenager, I went through a tie-dye phase. And tie-dyeing tights was my specialty. I had all sorts of funky tights that I wore all the time. In fact, one pair was red & white & pink swirly & my favoritest of all. Until a little 7 year old kid told me it looked like I had leprosy. Who cares. I still wore them.
I have been DYEING (don't you love a good dye pun?) to share this activity with my girls for a long time. It's fall, the weather is cooling...the PERFECT time for some sassy tights!
We started this project outdoors, but brought it inside once the dye was mixed. Like I said, the weather is cooling. Brrr!! Just remember that dye will, well, dye your clothes. So wear something grubby & have fun!

This is great! I've been waiting for this tutorial all day :) . Can't wait to try it with my daughter.
ReplyDeleteYou are too cute! Well, I waited all day for the girls to get out of school so they could put the tights on & have a little photo shoot with me so that I could finish this post! HA!
DeleteHave fun dyeing with your daughter!
After tye dying, I like to use the Shout Color Catchers to catch the extra dye. They're a little expensive, so I normally wash the dyed clothes separately like normal the first time, then use the color catchers when I wash them the second time. For small loads, like tye dye, I also tear the color catcher sheets in half or in thirds, as this ususally works just as well and it doesn't waste so much.
ReplyDeleteI have never used those Color Catchers---but what a great idea! Thanks for sharing the tip, Spangled!!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute. I've always been intrigued by the tattooed tights. Have you ever tried those.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun way to spice up a pair of tights! Awesome. :)
