I don't know if you've ever seen those "What I Wore Today" blog posts out there in blogland. There are even WHOLE blogs dedicated to them. I love 'em. Because I can vicariously live through their dreamy ensembles & romantic costumes...& fantasize about someday wearing those adorable vintage skirts & lovely handbags & funky hosiery & fabulous shoes.
This is my spoof on it. The "Mom" version. More specifically, this is an example of the uniform I wear when I take my girls to school in the morning. My "drive through the drop-off zone" duds.
I just heard the Mr. gasp when he saw this photo. Poor guy.
Today I honor all those moms...
...who rise early {after hitting the snooze button a few times} to rouse kidlets out of toasty, warm beds.
...who feed little tummies before feeding their own grumbling belly. (Or, while clearing the table of breakfast dishes, eat the leftovers.)
... who bathe their munchkins & may skip a shower themselves because there's just too much to do.
...who help dress their tiny humans, who haven't quite mastered buttoning their own trousers or tying their Spiderman tennies.
...who pack healthy lunches because, what is a "steak finger"? And because your children often describe, in detail, the cold chicken nugget they were served in the cafeteria that one day.
...who look forward to folding laundry–because it also means you can catch up on all your favorite shows.
...who strain your brain to come up a with a different meal to make your family every evening. Seriously, brain cells are dying on a weekly basis.
...who live a life of repeats. (Do laundry: repeat. Do dishes: repeat. Cook supper: repeat. Clean the house: repeat. Etc: repeat.)
...who walk through Walmart, by themselves, for fun.
...who realize how dumb you feel while helping your 4th grader with her homework.
...who tidy up a bathroom & suddenly feel like a better person.
...who, after a busy day, revel in the simple things: a quiet sit & a sip of cider; lighting your favorite candle; a cozy couch + a blanket + a book.
You are my people.
♥
Preach it, sista! Oh, so often, that is my uniform too...love it!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giggle! I've tried to make it out of the house like that to take my son to school and have been sent back to change LOL.
ReplyDeleteLike my DH says, "What if something happens to your car? Would you want to be seen like THAT or looking nice?" His logic has worked.
Then guess what, you are my people. Great post! Love the picture...especially the pants. Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI love this post, and love you for posting it! I have seen those What I Wore posts, and appreciate you for keeping it real. It is such a relief to see that I'm not the only one. I am glad we were paired for that owl swap so long ago- I found your blog that way, and I love visiting you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jessica! And I still sip from my favorite owl mug...
DeleteAnd yet, you are still adorable. You are killing me!
ReplyDeleteOh, & I should clarify the pants. It really was an act of kindness that we received them. The Mr. was wet from trying to change our tire in the snow. So the guy offered some extra trousers he had. Except the Mr. is 6'4". And that guy was....not. So I kept the pants.

I miss you. REPEAT. :)
ReplyDeleteDitto. REPEAT.
Deletelove this!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Love it!
ReplyDeleteThis is why I love your blog! I have been a reader for a long time and have never commented, silly me! Thank you for keepin' it real. <3
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Andrea! It means the world to me:
Deletea. that you love my blog.
b. that you read my blog.
AND
c. that you commented on my blog.
:0)
I love, love, LOVE this! I'm dying that you're wearing "stranger pants" lol. That's pretty much my drive-through-the-drop-off-line attire every day as well (today I attempted to put a stretchy lace headband over the bedhead...that makes it better, right?) :)
DeleteSeriously though, the fact that you're always YOU and brave enough to share it and keep it real is what has made me come back to your blog over and over again (since the days when you had like 200 Google followers, and I thought that was a HUGE following!) :)
LOVE that you are REAL!!
ReplyDeleteyou are too funny! great spoof.
ReplyDeletei, too, am a lurker on your blog and have never commented. couldn't pass this one up, though.
Thank you for this post. Those "what I wore" posts always depress me a little.
ReplyDeleteFabulous post! Laundry is a great excuse to watch MY shows on TV. My daily momiform is jeans and a t-shirt, year round. When it gets cold, I throw a sweater or sweatshirt. Recently, I've started wearing the occasional (casual) dress, just to stir things up, and it's amazing the compliments I've gotten for wearing a dress. They're even easier than jeans to throw on, lol. You should try it (with your new boots, for extra sass)!
ReplyDeleteLurker for three plus years here. But, I have to say it: Thank you, thank you. The past couple of years of taking my little ones back-and-forth, dressing only in "schlep" clothes, and monotony like I could never have imagined, make me one of yours. And that makes me feel good. (Even when staring at my closet of mouldering cute work clothes and awesome dress shoes sometimes makes me shed a little tear). I love my boys more than anything, but it's good to know that other people understand what it's really like day-t0-day. Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI looked for a like button for about 90 seconds. I can't find one, so...I like this post. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh - it's like looking in a mirror! I actually had a Doctor's appointment one day and got "dressed" and when I dropped my daughter off at school her teacher said, "Oh you look so cute when you do your hair!" Burned! I read the blogs too and always think I could do that, they all look so fab and like they just threw it together....but I usually look like your pic, except my hair is shorter, so it looks even more bed heady than yours. :) it is nice to know I'm not the only one who feels like my brain cells are dying trying to come up with dinner ideas in my sweats and bed head!
ReplyDeleteHilarious.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could love this post any more than I do. Perfect!
