Crafty Night: Cup & Saucer Planters

Crafty Night snuck up on me this month! It's the 2nd Tuesday of every month & I really didn't give myself a lot of time to prepare this time. But, alas, as usually happens when I am in frantic last-minute mode: I get most of my best ideas this way!!
And, well, though I can't take credit for this idea, I CAN give credit to my frenzied fingertips for searching one of my favorite crafty sites (One Pretty Thing) & finding this doozy of an excellent craft!

Zoey & I made a mad dash to pick up the supplies:
cups
saucers
small flat-back glass marbles
dirt
plants
heavy duty/waterproof glue
We hurried home & had 30 minutes to set up. I hadn't even tried this project before, so I wasn't sure if it was going to work.
But guess what? It worked!
(Even Zoey & Pazely got in on the crafty action!)

I won't give a tute, but I am happy to share a link HERE , show off the pictures of our fun planters & share my tips & thoughts after making the project.
  • I had SO much fun shopping the thrift store & pairing up mismatched cups & random saucers. I got about 15 sets for approximately $1 a set.
  • The flowers were purchased in the clearance section at Home Depot. (Weed through the sad looking ones to find some spiffy sprouts!)
  • And I used Gorilla Glue because it is 100% waterproof. The tutorial said to use Liquid Nails, but the Liquid Nails I found was only water resistant. Any strong waterproof glue will work.
  • It would be best to make the cup & saucer creation FIRST & then let it dry before attempting to pot the plants. But it was Crafty Night. We had 2 hours & we were anxious to get our creations made!(Everyone opted to leave their handmade planters overnight & not mess with taking them home.)
  • I couldn't find a specific "cement" drill bit. But I got one shaped like the drill bit in THIS awesome article. (A Ryobi brand 4-pack of different sizes, good for glass & tile.)
  • Starting with a smaller drill bit helped to make the drilling go more smoothly. A couple times the bit got so hot it glowed orange. And once, it snapped off. Oops.

See you next month---July 13!
