This weekend my town is celebrating Camp Clarke Days.
Lots of action & hooplah!
But the absolute highlight of the day was when my girls & I went to watch the frog/turtle races. Zoey & Pazely arrived empty handed---too afraid to enter their own squirmy pets in the competition. But they were excited to see the "races" anyway!
Zoey ended up getting a turtle to race from a 1st grade classmate. And then she found out it was HERS to keep! Pazely got one too!
The girls were sooooo thrilled!!!
Now we just have to figure out how to care for them.
The frogs were too wiggly for the girls.
But I think we can handle turtles.
♥
Turtle rule #1: wash your hands! Turtles can carry salmonella. (Something I would want to know ASAP if I had turtles in my home.)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy them!
I had a red eared slider (water/land turtle) for YEARS. She went from itsy bitsy, like, fit in the palm of my hand, to a 55 gallon aquarium, and then our pond outside! She was lots of fun, and not too much trouble. Initial set up, and housing a growing turtle are the only real issues.
ReplyDeleteIt's fairly easy to care for them, as long as you have a large enough area for them to swim [Water needs to be deep enough that they can turn over, or else they could flip upside down and drown.:(], and get out of the water to "sun" (Need some dry ground, and a heat lamp.) Oh, and check out what kind of turtle you have, and where they live, because the water temperature is important for them to be happy/healthy. You may need to get a thermometer/water heater to warm it up a bit.
P.S. If you are keeping them in an indoor aquarium, they get stinky. Even when they're clean. Be warned.
