Couch Cushion Cooties Contest.

Ok, so sometimes I get these kooky thoughts or ideas in my head. And this is one of them. Do you ever clean under your couch cushions? Do you find interesting things in there? Pennies? Hairballs? A random LEGO? An old tube of chapstick? Well, here's your chance to show & tell!

You can think of it as a kick-start to your "Spring Cleaning". (The first day of Spring is March 20th! Wheeee! I'm so excited!)

Is this too WaCkY? I may be the only one that enters my own contest. Take a picture, send me your JPEG & (if it's not offensive) I'll add it to this blog post. And to encourage you in your "Spring Cleaning" endeavors, I'll randomly pick a winner to receive one of my cupcake plushie pillows! (I'll let you choose a felt color!)

You have until Sunday, March 15th to send me your picture, along with your name & your blog link, if you have one. My email is whimsy-girl [at] hotmail DOT com. I'll announce the winner on Monday, March 16th.

Happy hairball hunting!

Congrats to CARRIE ME! for winning the Valentine Owlie! Here's what Carrie me! had to say:
"I love everything Valentine's and always do it up BIG time. But, when I was 7 I remember my great aunt came to stay and she and my Mom and I made about 100 sugar cookies that we decorated really elaborately and gave to all the neighbors. I LOVED it, which is what Valentine's is all about right??"

**Sorry I wasn't so timely on announcing the winner. Just woke up a from a nappy nap. I was exhausted from a trip I took over the mountains with my sis yesterday to see my dad again in Seattle. He just had ANOTHER surgery today & is doing well.

And The Fork Easel Goes To...

I almost forgot about the drawing!! HAHA!
I'm proud to announce the winner.....
Congrats to Kerry!!!! YAY! Woohoo! Thanks everyone for entering the drawing!

So, today marks the day--a year ago--when I officially opened WhiMSy love & filled the shop with goodies. It is so fun to look back on my last year & think that I actually got to make stuff & other people bought it. 184 items sold. That is so cool. I look forward to an even more successful year! Thanks to all my customers--you rock!

Tomorrow I'll be making cupcakes to complete my goal for March: make cupcakes from scratch. I've got the supplies & ingredients purchased & can't wait to get my cupcake groove on!!
I'm off to finish working on a "Happy Birthday" mini tag banner for the shop. All the crafty supplies are spread out. I'm sipping on some tea. I'm munching on some Girl Scout cookies (thin mints & peanut butter cookies if you really wanna know). My girls are quietly playing in the background. Ah, that's a lovely Sunday afternoon to me.

Happy SpRiNg!

Yay! It's the first day of Spring! My hair is celebrating today by wearing this enormous flower AND look what's in the shop today.....

I was up late last night making more mini pinwheel cupcake picks & I'm so excited to be doing these again this year. They were a hit last year & I just LOVE 'em!

So, I was thinking about how I'm celebrating my ONE YEAR ETSY ANNIVERSARY soon. I actually joined Etsy on February 28, but I had no working camera at the time so I didn't "officially" stock the shop & open it until March 30th. Four days later I had my first sale---to Christine of Bella Colle.

To celebrate, I'll be having a drawing on March 30th at noon, PST. To enter, all you need to do is visit WhiMSy love & then leave a comment here telling me your favorite item in the shop. Yep, I'm makin' ya work for this one. (Please make sure I am able to contact you, anyone can enter--even up to the last minute, one entry per person, blah-blah-blah). The winner will receive the very first item I ever sold, which continues to be my best seller to date.....

Have a lovely day!

Peace & cupcakes,

Nikki

***OK, I'm a dork. I left the wrong link to "WhiMSy love". It went to Bella Colle instead! haha! (So that's why the first comment adores your Chocolate Fairy Collage Christine!) It's been corrected now.

ONE-YEAR BLOG-VERSARY CONTEST!!

OK, is it "blog-versary"? "Blog-i-versary"? "Bloggerversary"? Who knows. But, I'm celebrating my first year of blogging (or "blabbing") on Feb. 25th!! I goofed yesterday & thought is was on the 28th, but it's not.

I started this blog as a friend to my Etsy shop, 'WhiMSy love', which I opened shortly after. And, oh, it was a lonely first few months here. I seriously heard the wind whistling through blogland as I wrote those early posts. I love being able to express myself in this way & to have made many friends! Thanks to everyone who reads this stuff! And thanks for all the comments--they really keep this crafty gal smilin'!
I realize that Feb. 25th is RIGHT around the corner, but I'm gonna have a drawing anyway. I don't expect many participants, so your odds of winning are in the "Super-Duper" category! Especially since I'm drawing TWO names!!!
This is also sort of a launch & celebration of my first-ever watercolor adventures. My cupcake watercolors will be arriving to WhiMSy love next week! I am really proud of them. So, one winner receive a postcard pack of all 8 of my most recent cupcake watercolors: "Cup Meets Cake", "Ballerina Princess Cupcake", "Monsieur Cupcake", "Superhero Cupcake Boy", "Girly Girl Cupcake", "Miss Diva Cupcake", "Mr. Clowny Cupcake" & "Jealous Muffin". Another winner will receive an 8x10 print of one of the cupcake watercolors of THEIR choice (except for "Girly Girl Cupcake"--I'm having trouble getting her colors printed correctly on the white background). They aren't even in the shop yet, so count yourself lucky!
And it's only appropriate that my cupcakes become the prizes since blogging is where I first started an affection for cupcakes & all things sweet & dessert-like. So, leave a comment my little bonbons for a chance to win!

'UGLY BIZ CARD' CONTEST!

**(UPDATES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE!)**
My blog friends have convinced me to have a contest to see who can create the most exciting & whimsical creations from my "awesome-dealio-of-the-century-but-quite-unattractive" box of 1000 plain white business cards.

HERE'S THE SCOOP:
If you're interested, email me your addy at whimsy-girl@hotmail.com & I'll send you 11 biz cards. You will use your creative & crafty ways to give them a truly unique makeover! To keep it simple, please use the same "theme" for all your cards. For example: If doodling is your thing, doodle on ALL of them. If you're into collage, do them ALL collage style. Like, don't doodle on one, put stickers all over another, glue paper on the next, etc. Does that make sense? (Sorry for all the "rules", but I think it'll be easier to decide on a winner if the cards maintain a consistent theme.) Keep a biz card for yourself, then send the other 10 BACK to me & I'll have a vote to see who the winner is! I've also decided to attach your name &/or etsy address to the back of the card as "Artwork by: such & such" The biz cards will be mailed out in the orders I package up at the shop, or to random strangers I hand them to. Isn't that cool of me?

DEADLINE FOR CONTEST: Please have all the cards mailed back to me by September 1st.

"What's the prize?" you ask. I'll be giving the winner a fab WhiMSy love vintage button ring & a fork easel! Also, I was thinking that if anyone wanted to participate by sending promos or more prizes, just email me & let me know & I'll send you my address. I'll update any new info (such as new prize additions to the contest, & who has joined the contest, etc.) at the bottom of this page--so save this blog entry for future reference! If enough people decide to send extra prizes, we may have 2 or 3 winners declared!

Thanks everyone!!! I look forward to receiving your creations. And thanks for helping a girl with ugly biz cards out! Any questions? Just email or leave a comment!! Ciao!
**Here's a link to the "Promotions" forum on Etsy where I left an announcement about the contest too!

Ugly....Need Help!

I need your help!! I got these business cards a few weeks ago & they were such a good deal. For 1000 cards I paid 4 dollars & some pocket change!! Shipping was free! I couldn't pass it up! I happened to be in the right place at the right time over on an Etsy forum & some kind Etsian shared about a great deal she had jumped on from Office Depot through fatwallet.com.
But, now they sit, ugly & depressed on my shelf. And I didn't do such a great job with the wording on the bottom because it's all jumbled, but oh well!
So, what can I do to jazz 'em up? And I don't have to do the same thing on each one. That way it'll add to the "whimsy-ness" of it. Please my blog friends, help a girl with some ugly biz cards out!! Maybe I could even "test" some of your ideas out & post pics. Will they ever be pretty?

(The picture I posted here is my favorite one!) The winner will receive the original collage piece she creates from the winning picture PLUS that same collage made into an art charm!!

P.S. Please visit my "YOWZA! It's the Sunday Featured Artist..." posting & wish reindeergirl a "Happy 33rd Birthday!" The 33rd comment wins a cool prize from both reindeergirl & WhiMSy love!!! YOWZA! It's the Sunday Featured Artist...Reindeer Girl!

Nope. Reindeer Girl isn't a reindeer. And, she doesn't SELL reindeer's either. Reindeer Girl Designs is a fab shop with oodles of fun handmade jewelry brought to you by artist JoAnne, who's 33rd birthday happens to be next Friday, July 6th. (But, more about that later...with some PRIZE GIVE-AWAYS!...)

Sit back, relax, enjoy a cup of handmade love while you read on about another amazing artist...

Where were you born, where are you from, where did you grow up, & where are you living now?I was born in Brockway, PA, a very small town in northeastern PA (near the ever-famous groundhog in Punxsutawney! :) See... there's NOTHING else up that way! ;) I lived there until 17, then a brief stay in New Mexico, before moving to the Philadelphia area for college and grad school. I now live in the Steel City- Pittsburgh, PA!

What inspires you?
Hmmm, as far as jewelry making, I really love the gemstones and all the colors, and just seeing all the possibilities in the raw materials—and I have always loved to look at and wear all kinds of jewelry! I also really dig making things specifically for special people in my life—those are my best pieces, I think. And I like to see things in stores or magazines or whatever and figure out how I can make an even cooler version! I like having things exactly how I would want them had I thought of it first!!

How long have you been crafting?
Only about a year—before that, I had resigned myself to thinking I just didn’t get any “Scarnati genes” (my Grandma’s last name—and SHE, besides Nik, of course, is THE ultimate crafty chick!!!). I started making jewelry in May 2006--just playing around at first...and it's been GREAT!!!!! It was suddenly like using a whole part of my brain that I never knew existed. And now I've also taken up drawing and painting—having a ball with that! And I flirt with (still from a reasonable distance- LOL!) sewing, stamping, and other little projects (like my favorite one, where I redid some plain picture frames with ribbon and beaded trims and stuff, and then decked out two of the photos in my Marilyn Monroe collection!

Share about, or describe your favorite piece.
Probably a tie between my “Obsidian Black Cat” necklace and “Opulent Amulet” (in my ‘sold’ stuff on Etsy! Yay Etsy!!) and a custom piece I finished recently, using these gorgeous beige cat’s eye beads, silver, and a rockin’ crow pendant by bibbidibaubles. I’m so proud of it!! http://www.flickr.com/photos/8169882@N07/502327404/in/set-72157600224974653/

What’s your favorite color?
Orange! Totally... :) Though I am also a girlie-girl and love pink--tons of it in my wardrobe!

How much time do you spend on your craft?
It depends…sometimes I’ll go a week or weeks without making anything. But Friday nights are a big craft night for me—Law and Order SVU, What Not to Wear on TLC, and I’m good! But even when I’m not actively ‘making’--or I should probably say ‘finishing’!!-- I have lots of UFO’s! I stay fairly socially active on Etsy. What a community!! It has been a wonderful thing, being there.

What were some of your most recent purchases from other Etsy artists?
I just bought some cute fabric-button barrettes from BellaJean, my very first ACEOs from laurali (I bought one of her fab ‘Zen Cats’ and also a phoenix), and some amazonite calla lily beads from jenNco2! (I have yet to buy some Whimsy goodness though!!)

Use three words to describe yourself.
Sincere, kind, and I guess I should make the 3rd ‘modest’?? LOL!

How awesome is WhiMSy love? (just joking!)
She is off the HOOK, for shizzle!! :D For real...that is one crafty chick! :)

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given on pursuing your craftiness? Just to do whatever feeds your soul. I think that’s good advice for everything, don’t you?

What are your goals or dreams in regards to your art?
I’d like to build a bigger customer base so I can start making ‘bigger’ things—using really good stones, fancier components, etc. Right now I don’t feel like it’s safe for me to make some things I want to (because they’d be more expensive). I also want to learn some new techniques—get better at wire and learn some weaving. And I want to keep having fun with it.

What is your favorite flav of ice cream?
Oooh, I SO love ice cream!! Very few I DON’T like! Black raspberry’s a fave from way back, and I love peanut butter cup—in vanilla ice cream—that’s hard to find!

What do you like to do when you are not being super crafty?
If sleeping were an Olympic event, I would be a gold medalist!!! Sleep, play with my fur-babies (2 super kitties), go to the movies, and I love good food…

What's your favorite thing to do in the summer?
Go to the beach, hands down! Especially my favorite place in the wooooorld, Stone Harbor, NJ. (And eat lots of ice cream, of course!)

What else would you like people to know about you?
How ‘bout: I love all things Marilyn Monroe, I really wish everyone would spay and neuter their pets and care for them for life (no more homeless pets!), I wanna take up ballroom dancing next, and Friday is my birthday!!! (Oh yeah, and I wish my mom had made ME a puppy party!!!)
Thanks, Whimsy!!!

No, thank YOU JoAnne! (As in: JoAnne Fabrics!) And, by the way, I love your Yummy Creamsicle Earrings! What a fun summer accessory! They remind me of an OrangeSicle ice cream shake I got at Carl's Jr. the other day. Mmmmm....

I think it is so inspiring to read about all these different artists. If you'd like to hear certain questions asked of the artists I interview every Sunday, drop me a line & let me know!
**Oh, yes, I almost forgot! Since Reindeer Girl is celebrating the big "33" on Friday, I thought I'd have a fun little "contest"/prize give-away! The 33rd person to leave a comment, wishing JoAnne a special happy birthday message will get a special treat from WhiMSy love in honor of her special day!! AND the birthday girl will ALSO be giving a present to the winner too! Cool, huh?
(One post per person please! Come on people, I think I can squeak out 33 comments, right? Help a girl & her reindeer out!) Thanks!!

And The Winner Is...

I'd like you all to meet Miss Roxi Valentine! Congratulations to beadeliciousbaby. Thank you to everyone who entered the contest. (Her name totally reminds me of someone that sings in a night club!) This was GREAT fun! And next time I have a contest I won't make the final wait so long! (What was I thinking?) Miss Roxi would like to thank you all too. You know, she even looks a wee bit happier to me. Holla at the head!

And, TOTALLY unrelated to all mannequin talk, my 4 year old daughter Zoey & I went to the river Thursday night & built a sand castle. Alright, I built it. She was off somewhere digging up buried treasure. She did, in the end, help me decorate it with seashells & broken glass, a feather & a flower. We had a really nice time together. I stepped into the water to take a picture & my legs went numb so fast. Next time I'm makin' Zoey take the picture!
